CARE Fitness shares easy health tips for the summer

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB)CARE Health and Fitness in Alexandria is sharing some simple tips on how to stay healthy over the upcoming summer months.

Every Monday, CARE hosts Motivational Mondays, where they share some workouts and tips on staying healthy this summer. That includes staying safe in the heat.

“Water, water. Nobody drinks enough water,” said Claire Burkhardt, co-owner and personal trainer. “Getting at least your 60 ounces of water, depending on your body weight, but getting your water in. Hydration, especially with how hot it gets, and you’re going to be sweating everything out. Water, it’s your friend.”

If you are the type of person who does not like drinking water, they say to use natural additives to make your water more enjoyable.

“The best thing I would tell somebody is get you some frozen fruit and put that into your water to add the flavor,” Burkhardt said. “That way, you are still getting a natural fruit source and flavor. You’re not getting any added sugars.”

If you are just getting started with exercising, the coaches at CARE demonstrated the Tabata exercise, which is 20 seconds of work and 20 seconds of rest.

Coach Cece and Coach Claire said to keep it simple when you are working out to see the best results.

“One of my favorite tips is to first find something you know you’re going to love doing,” said Cecely Hickman, co-owner and personal trainer. “Like learn to fall in love with moving. Not an exercise, just moving. Real big on keep it simple. Start small, keep it simple, because they want to get the results or they want to get this and then we hurt ourselves or we get unmotivated and we’re tired, so start small.”

The most important thing they stress is to not be ashamed of yourself, be proud.
