2025 marks 31 years since the adoption of the Restitution of Land Rights Act
2025 marks 31 years since the adoption of the Restitution of Land Rights Act. Over 500 Black and Coloured families that were forcibly evicted from Orania, then known as Groot-ge-waagd by the Apartheid government, want access to their land.

They were removed to allow the completion of the Gariep Dam. Following the construction of the dam, the Water Affairs Department sold the land to Orania’s founder Carel Willem Hendrik.
