A look at the state of boy children in South Africa
Social norms, structural and systemic factors such abuse and poverty continue to impact the lives of children in South Africa.
Although the Constitution provides for the rights of children to be protected, many still see these rights as unachievable dreams.
As we mark the International Day of the Boy Child this morning, we take a closer look at the societal pressure placed on boys, who face many challenges such as the stigma of seeking help, hampering their well-being and development.
Have our boy children been overlooked and what is being done to protect them? To answer these questions, we are joined virtually by Refilwe Mokoena, Child Safety & Protection Manager at the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, and 18-year-old Dikgang Morudu, a student at the University of Limpopo and President of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Parliament.
Good morning.
