ANCWL pays tribute to the late stalwart Gertrude Shope
The African National Congress Women’s League says they were hoping to celebrate ANC stalwart Gertrude Shope’s 100th birthday soon.
The league has paid tribute to the struggle icon who died yesterday at her home in Gauteng at the age of 99.
The ANC has described Shope as a committed freedom fighter who dedicated her life to challenging the systemic oppression of black South Africans.
Shope was the first president of the ANC Women’s League following its relaunch in 1991.
