Anthony Albanese expected to invite Pope to Australia during inauguration mass
Australian Ambassador to the Holy See Keith Pitt says he expects Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to “extend the invitation again” for Pope Leo XIV to visit Australia in 2028.
“The Prime Minister has already made an open invitation in a statement to the media,” Mr Pitt told Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.
“It’s been a long time since a Pope was in Australia, and, in fact, the PM will meet him today in the line-up on the way out of the inauguration, is our understanding.
“All of the world leaders will have that brief opportunity on the way through, and I’m sure he’ll extend the invitation again.”
