Across Asia, inspired individuals are working hard to plant seeds of hope in their communities. In rural India, the nation’s first female wrestling coach is training young women to become future wrestling champions. Her school is a beacon of hope that empowers young women, offering them a greater chance at happiness and freedom. In Shaanxi Province, China, one man who started planting trees in the desert in 1976 is passing on this tradition to the younger generation. His grandson, Guo Jianjun, keeps this family tradition alive by slowly but surely turning the Mu Us Desert green. Not all saplings that he plants survive, but those that do are creating the conditions for future plants to thrive. At the mouth of the Yellow River, one fishing village is facing the dilemma of younger generations no longer choosing to work in the industry. To address this problem, local residents are looking for new ways of stimulating the local economy and improving people’s lives in the community.
