Attempts to cut public media fail because ‘people think that it’s worth it’: Fmr NPR President
Public broadcasters like PBS and NPR are crucial sources of information, serving communities around the country. Despite President Trump’s latest attempt to defund them, Former NPR President and CEO Vivian Schiller points out that multiple past attempts have always failed in Congress. Why? “Members of Congress are hearing from their constituents how much they value public television and public radio,” Schiller explains. Despite Trump and Republicans leading the charge, “this is particularly true in red states and small communities, because there may not be any [other] sources of local news.”
