Coalition has ‘a hill to climb’ going into federal election
Shadow Home Affairs Minister James Paterson says the Coalition will be the “underdogs” heading into the federal election.
Released by the Australian on Sunday night, the second Newspoll of the campaign revealed Labor has held a national two-party-preferred lead of 52-48, with the Coalition’s primary vote support falling a point to 35 per cent.
“It’s 100 years since the first term government was turfed out of office and we have a hill to climb – we know that,” Mr Paterson said told Sky News Australia.
“But I’m encouraged by the response that our candidates are reporting that they get into the field.”
