‘Disgraced’ former FBI director slammed for calling for the ‘assassination’ of Donald Trump
Former FBI Director James Comey has been widely condemned following an Instagram post about US President Donald Trump.
In Comey’s now-deleted post, he allegedly found a “cool shell formation” while walking on the beach.
The former bureau director’s post showed shells spelling the numbers “86 47”, which some have taken as a direct threat to the president.
The number ‘86’ is often used as a call sign to murder or neutralise someone, while 47 references the 47th US President, Donald Trump.
Users on social media were quick to slam Comey over his post, with some accusing him of calling for the “assassination” of Trump.
Donald Trump Jr and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem were some of the prominent figures who accused Comey of threatening the president.
“Disgraced former FBI Director James Comey just called for the assassination of @POTUS Trump. DHS and Secret Service is investigating this threat and will respond appropriately,” wrote Noem.
