DNA backlog leads to immense challenges
A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Kimberley says the DNA backlog in South Africa presents significant challenges for victims of crime, particularly those affected by Gender Based Violence (GBV) and sexual assault.
The South African Police Services (SAPS) Forensic Science Laboratory has a backlog exceeding 140 000 cases, causing delays in the justice system.
A situation that has been downplayed by SAPS which states that they are on top of the matter.
