Donald Trump and his threats ‘transformed’ the Canadian election
University of British Columbia political scientist says US President Donald Trump and his threats “loomed” over Canada’s recent election.
Newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met with Trump for the first time at the Oval Office, where the two leaders engaged in a friendly, yet tense conversation in front of the world’s media.
“Mr Carney’s presence gave the Liberals an opportunity, but it was the Liberals’ ability to speak to the need to defend Canada against the United States,” Mr Prest told Sky News Australia.
“That really transformed the election.”
