Donald Trump concludes day one of Middle East tour with major deal secured
US President Donald Trump has concluded day one of a four-day tour of the Middle East.
He’s announced a strategic economic deal between the United States and Saudi Arabia aimed at reducing America’s trade deficit.
President Trump also confirmed plans to lift sanctions on Syria, which were met with celebration in Damascus and the UN.
“I will be ordering the cessation of sanctions against Syria in order to give them a chance at greatness,” President Trump said.
“The sanctions were brutal and crippling and served as an important … function nevertheless at the time – now, it’s their time to shine.”
The day concluded with a visit to a UNESCO world heritage site and a state dinner before diplomatic talks begin tomorrow.
