Ed Miliband 'Should Ignore Climate Fundamentalism’ And Rethink Net Zero Plans, Says Union Boss
Gary Smith, GMB union general secretary, has criticised the government’s Net Zero plan, deeming the 2030 clean power switch unrealistic and warning it could lead to blackouts like those in Spain and Portugal.
He also opposed banning North Sea exploration licenses, arguing it would harm domestic oil and gas production.
Alex Phillips discusses the story with author of Green Tyranny, Rupert Darwall.
Rupert highlights that the drive towards Net Zero will cause job losses in the UK, with jobs shifting to China.
He explained the grid instability caused by renewable energy sources, particularly solar and wind, which are weather-dependent and make the grid more fragile.
Rupert predicted that political pressure to abandon Net Zero would grow, but it would require repealing section two of the Climate Change Act, a process likely to take time.
