Federal judge upholds Trump's use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport illegal aliens
A federal judge has handed US President Donald Trump and his administration a massive win in their efforts to deport illegal immigrants.
On Tuesday, a federal judge ruled that the Trump administration can invoke the Alien Enemies Act to deport members of the Venezuelan gang Tren De Aragua.
In the ruling, the judge specified that those who are currently facing removal were not given proper notice before their deportations took place.
Due to not being given proper notice, those who are subject to removal could face possible due process and legal challenges.
US District Judge and Trump appointee Stephanie Haines, whose decision was in favour of the White House, conflicts with prior rulings against the current administration.
“Having done its job, the Court now leaves it to the Political Branches of the government, and ultimately to the people who elect those individuals, to decide whether the laws and those executing them continue to reflect their will,” Haines said.
