A French frigate shot down a drone fired from Yemen that was targeting shipping routes in the Red Sea, the French military said Friday.
According to Associated Press the French ship is part of the EU’s Aspides mission securing shipping corridors in the high-traffic region.
It spotted the drone while it was on the way back from a tour and intercepted it, said military spokesman Colonel Guillaume Vernet.
Video released by the French military showed the ship spotting and shooting the drone before it fell into the sea.
French ships have shot down drones in the region but this was the first in several months.
