‘Fundamentals’: Chalmers looks to address productivity stagnation as wages rise
Institute of Public Affairs’ Daniel Wild discusses how Treasurer Jim Chalmers is looking to address Australian productivity growth stagnation in the economy as wages continue rising.
“We do not have much productivity growth, and so if the supply of your economy is not increasing and wages are going up and you are pumping more money into the economy that can fuel inflation,” Mr Wild told Sky News host Caroline Di Russo.
“The fundamentals of the economy are not improving … Jim Chalmers has pointed to productivity as being an aim of his now … but they are on the right path if they are genuinely going to do something about it.”
