Newly-elected Prime Minister Mark Carney and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre delivered speeches to their MPs on Sunday afternoon, outlining their priorities for the upcoming session. Thousands across the U.S. are remembering George Floyd on the fifth anniversary of his death. Floyd, a Black man in Minneapolis, was killed while being arrested by a white police officer. His death sparked worldwide protests against police brutality and racism. Candice Cole looks at how Floyd is being remembered and what has changed since his death.
King Charles will fly to Ottawa Monday for his first visit to Canada as monarch. The King will deliver the throne speech, a task normally carried out by Canada’s Governor General. Charles’ mother, Queen Elizabeth, only gave the throne speech twice during her 70-year reign. As Eric Sorensen reports, the visit is being seen as highly symbolic – underscoring Canada’s sovereignty.
