Government considering changing Mental Capacity Act after murder of autistic man | ITV News
The mother of a murdered autistic man has secured a promise from the government to look at changing the law. The change would give families the right to request a mental capacity assessment for a vulnerable loved one.
Fiona Laskaris says her son Christopher never got the crucial support he needed – because her pleas, for a so-called ‘mental capacity assessment’, were ignored.
However, after her case was highlighted on ITV News, it was raised in the Commons and today she secured a meeting with the Care Minister.
Fiona hopes it will help others avoid a similar ordeal, as ITV News Political Correspondent Romilly Weeks reports.
