Hackers targeting myGov and ATO accounts
Hackers have targeted Australian taxpayers’ myGov accounts to claim fraudulent tax returns.
Hackers are filing falsified tax returns and then directing the funds to their personal bank accounts.
The ATO have taken steps to cease the fraudulent practice and says the unusual activity is linked to identity theft.
The ATO has not responded to questions about how many accounts have been impacted and if any arrests have been made.
