Harris says Trump “inviting a recession” in rare post-election speech
The White House has hit back at former U.S. vice president Kamala Harris after she condemned current U.S. President Donald Trump in a speech at a high-profile event on Wednesday.
In her first major comeback since leaving office in January after losing the federal election, Harris critiqued Trump’s rollercoaster tariff policies, suggesting he and his “high-velocity” administration were “inviting a recession” to the U.S.
“President Trump and his administration are counting on the notion that if they make some people afraid, it will have a chilling effect on others.,” Harris said at San Francisco’s Emerge America event – hosted by a non-profit that seeks and trains women to run for office as democrats.
Responding to Harris’s sharp critique Thursday, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said her words were “a helpful reminder of just what a travesty and a tragedy it would have been” if she won last November’s election.
