Hopes that Godongwana's 3.0 budget is well received
On the 21st of May, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana is set to present Budget 3.0, South Africa’s third attempt at passing this 2025’s national budget.
The first attempt in February collapsed after coalition partners rejected the proposed VAT increase. A second version, tabled in April, was also rejected.
The EFF and DA took the Minister to court arguing that the 0.5% VAT hike was unlawful.
This budget aims to address a R75 billion shortfall caused by the government’s decision to abandon a planned VAT increase.
