Isabel Debre, a journalist at the Associated Press in Buenos Aires, paints a picture of the complicated relationship between the Pope, who never returned home, and his Argentine homeland. In an article Debre wrote that for millions of Argentines, Francis was ‘a source of controversy and a spiritual north star whose remarkable life traced their country’s turbulent history.’
