Illicit tobacco market explodes into ‘runaway success’ for organised crime
Sky News host Caleb Bond says media outlets are now “waking up” to the reality that the illicit tobacco market has exploded into a “runaway success” for organised crime.
“The price of legal cigarettes is far too high due to extortionate tax that the federal government charges on tobacco,” Mr Bond said.
“It has precious little to do with health. It’s because the government wants to squeeze as much money as it can out of poor old smokers.
“I warned that that would lead to a booming illegal market, and of course, that is exactly what’s happened.”
