Ingedi demolitions spark tensions
The demolition of dwellings at the Ingedi informal settlement in Roodepoort, West of Johannesburg, has caused a stir.
And led to tension between residents and the City of Johannesburg.
Residents say they did not receive formal eviction notices and were only informed of plans to build a substation there mid-April.
However, the City says the original residents of the informal settlement have been allocated formal housing already – and this cohort were not part of them.
