Israeli-American hostage released by Hamas, reunites with family
An Israeli-American soldier held hostage for more than 19 months in the Gaza Strip was released Monday by Hamas in a goodwill gesture toward the Trump administration.
The Israeli military confirmed that 21-year-old Edan Alexander was turned over to the Red Cross and then to Israeli forces, and had crossed into Israeli territory.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the return of Alexander was “a very emotional moment.” Netanyahu thanked the diplomatic efforts of Trump and stated Israel’s military pressure and Trump’s political pressure were a “winning formula.”
“We are blessed to get him back and kiss him and hug him, for me it’s a whole world today. I am happy, it is a great joy, the heart is open, there’s air in my lungs, thank God,” said Varda Ben Baruch, Edan’s grandmother.
Meanwhile, people rejoiced in Israel for the release of Edan Alexander but there was still worry for the remaining hostages still held in Hamas captivity in Gaza.
