Jo'burg CBD Raids I Several arrested over municipal by-laws
Four undocumented immigrants were arrested during a raid targeting an illegally occupied building in the Johannesburg CBD. Several businesses were also shut down for operating without the necessary permits. Officials from the City of Johannesburg, the Department of Home Affairs, and the Metro Police raided commercial spaces within a six-storey building owned by the municipality. The operation forms part of the City’s ongoing initiative to ensure that businesses – including supermarkets and restaurants operating in the CBD and occupying municipal properties – comply with municipal by-laws.
