“Justice has been served”: French actor Gérard Depardieu found guilty of sexual assault
A Paris court has found French actor Gérard Depardieu guilty of sexually assaulting two women on a film set in 2021.
Though the Oscar-nominee did not attend Tuesday’s sentencing – citing scheduling conflicts while filming in Portugal – he has been handed an 18-month suspended prison sentence.
“Justice has been served,” Amelie K., a victim of Depardieu said in response to the guilty verdict. While working as a set decorator on ‘Les Volets Verts’, Amelia said Depardieu groped her.
Depardieu, 76, has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. His lawyer says he will “obviously appeal” the court’s decision.
Once a towering figure in French cinema, Depardieu’s reputation has been blighted after facing sexual assault allegations from more than a dozen women since 2018.
