Kilmar Abrego Garcia wife speaks as US judge orders sworn testimony from Trump officials
Jennifer Vasquez Sura, the wife of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man mistakenly deported to a notorious El Salvador prison, spoke out Tuesday as Trump administration officials were due to be grilled by a federal judge on its continued refusal to bring her husband home.
U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis said Tuesday afternoon that she would order sworn testimony by administration officials to determine if they complied with orders to facilitate Garcia’s return.
Xinis said the administration had defied a “clear” Supreme Court order and in written remarks called for testimony from four officials who work for U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department. She said she expects the process to last two weeks.
Earlier in the day, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stood by the administration’s earlier comments that it could not bring Garcia home. Leavitt said Garcia was an MS13 gang member and that “deporting him back to El Salvador was always going to be the end result.”
