Against the backdrop of the so-called "DPR Day," locals recorded a video message in which they protested against the arbitrariness of the occupation authorities, stating that they do not feel part of the "DPR" or Russia, ASTRA writes.<br /><br />On May 11, the so-called "birthday" of the fake "DPR" is celebrated in the occupied territories of the Donetsk region of Russia - the anniversary of the illegal "referendum" of 2014. However, for the residents of the destroyed Mariupol, this day has nothing in common with the holiday: people feel captured and enslaved.<br />Local residents claim that since the capture of the city, Russian and occupation authorities have systematically taken away their housing and small businesses. Instead of restoring destroyed houses, mortgage complexes for Russians are being built, and Mariupol residents simply have nowhere to live.<br />"To our great regret, the residents of the city of Mariupol found themselves in the role of captured and enslaved," says one of the local residents. She emphasizes that the occupation authorities of the "DPR" violate not only international norms, but also their own laws, depriving people of housing and the right to a decent life. Residents of two houses on Kuprin Street, 77 and 75, also addressed the Russian parliament, stating: "Over the past three years, everything that has happened in the city of Mariupol is a raider seizure of our property." Numerous appeals to the law enforcement agencies of the occupiers have yielded no results. The authorities ignore complaints, and local residents continue to suffer from arbitrariness.<br />According to the independent publication ASTRA, mortgage construction is actively developing in Mariupol. However, these projects are not aimed at local residents, but at migrants from Russia. Expensive land in the city center has been transferred to Russian construction companies, while thousands of Mariupol residents are left without a roof over their heads. Local residents say that all small businesses have been "squeezed out" and new enterprises are controlled by newcomers who "saw off" all the city's resources among themselves. Any attempts to protect their property or file a complaint end in threats and repression.<br />Despite regular appeals to the Russian authorities, the Kremlin and its controlled media completely ignore these problems. Residents of Mariupol record video messages several times a month, but their cries for help remain unanswered. Human rights activists note that such a policy of the occupation authorities is in fact tantamount to genocide: entire communities are destroyed, people are deprived of housing and the opportunity to conduct economic activity.
