KwaZulu-Natal | High unemployment in informal settlements
International Workers’ Day meant very little to the many unemployed residents in some of Durban’s informal settlements who say they’ve lost hope of finding jobs.
In a recent report, Durban’s eThekwini Metro has found that the unemployment rate in informal settlements in the city is at a staggering 91%.
The report also says that more than half of the population in informal settlements comprised internal migrants from the Eastern Cape.
SABC News spoke to some residents at Quarry Road informal settlement who say they are forced to live from hand to mouth.
