Labor ‘lying’ to Australians over Russia’s request for base in Indonesia
Sky News host Chris Kenny has accused the Albanese government of “lying” after it was revealed they knew Russia had requested a base in Indonesia since March.
The Albanese government was aware of a Russian request for access to an Indonesian military base as early as March, after repeatedly failing to clarify whether an approach was made.
Earlier this month, defence publication Janes reported that Moscow had requested permission to base military aircraft at Manuhua Air Force Base north of Papua, only 1,200 kilometres from Darwin.
“Instead of addressing the issue, Anthony Albanese seized on a misstatement by Peter Dutton, attributing the story to a statement from the Indonesian President rather than a deeply sourced media report, so the Prime Minister just mocked the Coalition and said there was nothing to see,” Mr Kenny said.
