Liverpool parade attack: 53-year-old man faces murder charge for ramming car into crowd
An eyewitness on Tuesday described how “joy and celebration turned into horror and panic” when a car ploughed into a crowd of Liverpool fans during a Premier League title parade.
British police believe the incident, in a packed Liverpool city centre on Monday, was isolated and not an act of terrorism, but have not said why or how a man was able to drive at crowds celebrating in the streets.
A 53-year-old man from West Derby, in Liverpool, was in custody after being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving offences and driving while unfit through drugs, police said.
Liverpool fan Shen, from Shanghai, said that it was like “paradise to hell.”
The incident “cast a very dark shadow over what had been a joyous day,” Liverpool City Council leader Liam Robinson said.
