Manitoba wildfires: Premier Kinew gives latest update as 6 local states of emergency declared | LIVE
Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew will provide an update on the wildfires ravaging the province on Wednesday. Two people have died in southern Manitoba, where strong winds and hot temperatures have sparked the rapid growth of wildfires near Lac du Bonnet.
Six local states of emergency have been declared, particularly highlighting the significant wildfire near Lac du Bonnet, which has led to evacuation orders for nearly 1,000 residents.
Another out-of-control blaze near Bird River has already expanded to approximately 100,000 hectares, which is also “out of control at this time.” Additionally, a fire near the Ontario-Manitoba border is being closely monitored.
Officials urge the public to stay away from affected areas and said, “first responders need space to respond. We need to be able to get equipment in and out. So, if folks don’t need to be out there this weekend, our request is that they do stay away for now.”
