'Marking their own homework': ABC clears itself of wrongdoing over latest editing drama
The ABC Ombudsman has cleared the ABC of misleadingly editing a War Memorial segment after a complaint that audio of the Last Post was edited over construction footage, which could give the impression that it was happening at the same time.
The Ombudsman investigated the complaint and said that Four Corners “was correct” that “no reasonable viewer would interpret this series of scenes as a continuous sequence”.
The War Memorial’s director Matt Anderson responded to the ABC’s finding, telling Sky News in a statement that “we are disappointed but not surprised”.
“They are marking their own homework.”
Sky News host Chris Kenny explained the ABC Ombudsman’s latest finding on his Sky News program on Thursday night.
“I say bunkum,” Mr Kenny said.
“The ABC Ombudsman, surprise, surprise, has been too eager to clear the ABC.
“Are they suggesting that [Kim] Beazley and others at the War Memorial are not ‘reasonable viewers’?”
