Menendez brothers resentenced, now eligible for parole
A Los Angeles judge has reduced the murder sentence for the Menendez brothers, bringing them one step closer to freedom.
Erik and Lyle Menendez were sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of killing their parents in their LA home in 1989.
They’ve already served 35 years – now they’ve been given a new sentence of 50 years to life, which means they will be eligible for parole.
The California parole board must still decide if they can be released.
The judge made the ruling based on the brothers committing the crime before the age of 26.
Prosecutors argue the pair planned their parents’ murders to gain access to their fortune and should not be released.
