Nakba Day: Thousands denounce historic and ongoing Palestinian displacement
Thousands of protesters around the world marked May 15 as Nakba Day , commemorating the “catastrophe” in 1948, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced during the creation of the state of Israel.
No humanitarian aid has entered Gaza since March 2, and a global hunger monitor warns that half a million people there face starvation.
With most of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents now internally displaced, some say their current suffering is even worse than during the original Nakba.
Roughly 700,000 Palestinians were expelled or fled their homes during the 1948 war.
