Newsom-backed San Francisco speed camera program faces backlash
Sky News contributor Kosha Gada weighed in on San Francisco’s new speed camera program backed by California Governor Gavin Newsom, calling it “immoral” and economically incoherent.
The policy, backed by Governor Newsom, would adjust the cost of speeding tickets based on a driver’s income.
Under the plan, standard speeding fines — which typically range from $50 to $500 — would be reduced for lower-income households.
Those earning at or below 200 per cent of the federal poverty level would be eligible for a 50 per cent discount.
Individuals classified as indigent or homeless are eligible for an 80 per cent discount on the speeding ticket.
