NJ Transit strike halts trains as engineers demand fair pay
New Jersey Transit rail service was halted Friday, after engineers walked off the job.
The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen says contract talks collapsed.
Union leaders say engineers haven’t had a raise in six years and earn the lowest pay in the United States.
Governor Phil Murphy says the state is ready to negotiate, but says the strike was avoidable.
