“No active threat” after vehicle attack at Vancouver street festival, Carney says | FULL
Liberal Party Leader Mark Carney said on Sunday that there is “no active threat” to Canadians following a deadly incident in Vancouver in which a man drove his vehicle into a crowd at the Lapu Lapu festival.
Carney said he had been briefed by his national security and intelligence adviser and the public safety minister. Vancouver Police Department confirm that at least nine people are dead, including a child, and at least six others are injured.
“I and all Canadians were shocked, devastated and heartbroken,” Carney said, and addressing the Filipino community directly, added: “I know that I join all Canadians in mourning with you. I know that Canadians are united with you.”
A 30-year-old suspect, a Vancouver man, has been arrested in connection with the attack. Vancouver police say the suspect was known to them.
