Dungog and Clarence Town residents were evacuated on Tuesday as flooding submerged roads and bridges and inundated businesses and schools.
Digby Rayward is the mayor of Dungog and a farmer, and praised the community’s efforts.
In 2015, three people died in Dungog when rapidly rising floodwaters impacted homes after a deluge of rain.
More flooding is expected in parts of the Mid North Coast and Hunter Valley, with residents urged to exercise continued caution.
