Penny Wong admits the Voice to Parliament is ‘gone’
Foreign Minister Penny Wong has retracted her comments on the Indigenous Voice to Parliament after previously suggesting a referendum on the proposal could pass.
The Foreign Minister claims the Voice is “gone”, adding that Labor respects the view of the Australian people.
The Senator initially hinted the proposal may be viewed in a similar way to the campaign for same-sex marriage, saying Australians will one day question why there was ever debate about the Voice.
The Voice to Parliament proposal was rejected by more than 60 per cent of Australians in a referendum, which cost taxpayers an estimated $450 million.
