    Pope Francis dead: Trump, Putin among world leaders paying tribute to late Pontiff

    Pope Francis died Monday and U.S. President Donald Trump has offered condolences and announced the signing of an executive order to lower “all federal flags and state flags at half-mast in [his] honour.”

    Of the pontiff, Trump said, “he was a good man, worked hard. He loved the world, and it’s an honor to do that.”

    Russian President Vladimir Putin, too, offered his condolences, saying, “Throughout the years of his pontificate, he actively promoted the development of dialog between the Russian Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches, as well as constructive cooperation between Russia and the Holy See.”

    “In this sad hour, I would like to convey to you and the entire Catholic clergy my words of sympathy and support,” Putin added in his message.
