Pope Francis, the first Pontiff of the Americas passes on
The Vatican has announced the passing of Pope Francis.
The Pope was 88 years old.
In previous months he was admitted in hospital due to pneumonia.
Pope Francis, the first Pontiff of the Americas, was born on 17 December 1936 as Jorge Mario Bergoglio from Argentina in Buenos Aires..
He has been hailed as a simple priest who cared about his congregation.
He was elected supreme pontiff on 13 March 2013.
