Power outage in southern France disrupts final day of Cannes Film Festival
Investigators believe arson may have played a role in a major power outage that threatened to derail the Cannes Film Festival’s final day of celebrations.
Fortunately, power was restored just hours before the Palme d’Or ceremony.
Authorities suspect an arsonist sparked a fire at an electrical substation near Cannes, weakening the electrical grid overnight, according to the French national gendarmerie.
A high-voltage line collapse also caused a power loss affecting about 160,000 households.
