Prison oversight in the SADC region: Chikondi Chijozi
Various stakeholders in the SADC development bloc have held a first of its kind summit on the 23 to 25 April 2025. The summit looked at developing a SADC Model Law on Prison Oversight that will be set as a benchmarking reference for national parliaments of SADC countries and other stakeholders in view of enhancing the functions of parliaments to exercise oversight over the treatment and conditions of detainees. It also looked at a range of issues involved in parliamentary oversight of prisons.
