Russia has sentenced Australian Oscar Jenkins to 13 years in a maximum-security prison for fighting alongside Ukrainian forces, according to prosecutors in the Russian-controlled part of eastern Ukraine.
The 33-year-old from Melbourne was convicted of participating in an armed conflict as a mercenary after fighting against Russian troops from March to December of last year. He will serve his sentence in a strict-regime penal colony.
