Against enemy aircraft, the Ukrainians used air-to-air missiles with infrared guidance AIM-9 Sidewinder. According to the GUR of the Ministry of Defense, three Magura-7 unmanned boats were involved for this, two of which fired at targets.<br /><br />Captain of the 1st rank of the reserve of the Naval Forces of Ukraine, former Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, strategic expert of the Sonata company Andriy Ryzhenko told what part of the Black Sea is controlled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, how the Russian Federation blocks the navigation of ships, and how Ukrainian engineers were able to adapt naval drones for firing air-to-air missiles. In February 2022, the Russian Federation took full control of the northwestern part of the Black Sea. At that time, we controlled only 12 nautical miles of our territorial waters with the help of coastal artillery. In 2022-2023, Russian ships were even stationed near the Bosphorus Strait and in the area of Romania. They terrorized merchant ships heading to Ukrainian ports - they attacked, detained, there were victims among the sailors...<br /><br />But in Ukraine, after the Neptune and Harpoon missiles, naval drones appeared. And the Russians began to have big troubles. So, after successful drone attacks carried out in the open sea by the Defense Forces, the occupiers had to remove their combat units from that water area, because they had problems, including with patrol and reconnaissance ships.<br /><br />“In other words, we have established a "border" that the Russians are afraid to cross. The Armed Forces of Ukraine now control the western part of the Black Sea, but we have not yet managed to restore navigation – shipping”, Andriy Ryzhenko said.<br /><br />He recalls, in early May, fighters from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense shot down two enemy Su-30 multi-role fighters over the Black Sea using a Magura-7 drone. The head of the GUR, Kirill Budanov, called it a historic moment. “This is a very successful stage of adapting the forces of unmanned systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the situation in the Black Sea. We are talking about countering the system that Russia began to use against our sea kamikaze drones from approximately the second quarter of 2024.<br /><br />Let me explain. Then, after the dismissal of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy and the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the enemy carried out a kind of work on mistakes. In particular, against Ukrainian drones, which were already a serious threat at that time, the Russians began to use naval aviation, significantly increased the coastal surveillance system - installed additional radars, deployed patrols...
