Singh tears up talking about “horrific” attack that killed at least 11 at Filipino festival in BC
NDP leader Jagmeet Singh teared up in front of reporters Sunday on the last stop of his campaign in Penticton, B.C., as he addressed the “horrific” attack that resulted in multiple deaths at a Filipino festival in Vancouver the night before.
“Now is the time for Canada to wrap its arms around the Filipino community,” Singh said. “We cannot imagine the depth of your grief. But know this you do not grieve alone.”
The death toll from the Saturday night attack at the Lapu Lapu festival, in which a man drove a vehicle into the crowd, rose to 11 on Sunday with dozens more reported injured, according to local police
Vancouver Police Department Chief Const. Steve Rai said Sunday that a suspect is in custody and that the man has a history of interactions with Vancouver police and healthcare professionals. He also said investigators do not believe the incident to be an act of terrorism.
