“Starmer Is Saying Reform UK Are Breathing Down His Neck” | Labour Youth Mobility Scheme Criticised
Sir Keir Starmer has shown support for a youth mobility scheme as part of a new UK-EU deal, ahead of a summit on Monday.
He told The Times the plan would allow young people to live and work abroad for up to two years, but stressed it wouldn’t bring back pre-Brexit freedom of movement. No details were given on age limits or caps.
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch criticised the idea as “free movement through the back door,” though she said her party supports youth schemes with limits. Reform UK also opposes it.
In other news, MPs in the House of Commons got another chance to debate a bill that would let terminally ill adults in England and Wales end their own lives if they have six months or less to live.
But they only had time to vote on two changes. One allows medical staff to opt out of taking part.
The limited debate time has raised concerns about whether the bill is being properly examined.
Peter Cardwell speaks with Labour MP for Southampton Itchen, Darren Paffey.
