Taiwan calls for Australia's support
Taiwan is calling on Australia to defy Beijing and support its admission to a 12-nation, free trade pact group.
Taipei requested to join the Comprehensive Progressive Agreement for Trans Pacific Partnership back in 2021, but had its submission stalled by China.
Trade tariffs in the U.S. have pushed Taiwan to renew its request to join, labelling the pact as “the gateway to future trade”.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed he will support Indonesia’s bid to join, during his recent visit to Jakarta.
